This is certainly a release that will appeal to a lot of people, whether they hail from the industrial, electronic, indie, etc. camps..
Found this under the "Ambient" section in a local record store, but it's definitely not ambient in the typical synth-wash/nature sound samples category. "Acoustic ambient?" Something like that. Practically all of the rehas many "real" instruments throughout. Cellos, flutes, etc. Coupled with many exotic synth sounds (watch out AFX!) and some thunderstorm noises towards the end of the disc.
When you first pop in this disc, you instantly think Slowdive met the Hafler Trio in an opium den or something. Vocals fade in and out (they're the dreamy, incoherent Seefeel variety) but there is never anything to "hold on" to. The music is totally unstructured, like a huge ambient jam session. However, nothing ever comes off as being token or thrown in to get that typical "ambient" effect.
At any rate, this is definitely one of my favorite releases of the year - I believe it even tops Seefeel. Definitely unconventional. You won't find much on this disc you've heard before.. If you like the Orb, Horizon 222, My Bloody Valentine, etc. you won't regret this purchase!
