Did you know, for example, that the face of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the coins of 35 countries? Or that The Hymn To Freedom, the Greek national anthem, has 158 verses?

Neither did we, but British Sea Power did. Not only do they know these random facts, but most importantly, they rock out. They’ve also sold out, the Shepherds Bush Empire that is, and can now announce they are to host Club Sea Power at Champion Sound.

“British Sea Power are the only band of their kind to recognise the bigger picture, to dare to look beyond the instant thrills of youth, and sing about mortality and decay with a fearless, pitiless clarity beyond their years." Simon Price, Independent On Sunday.

Info for the techies:

BSP are headlining and playing a full set, with The Ecstasy Of Saint Theresa supporting. The evening is being given a Czech theme and will be hosted under a variation of the renowned Club Sea Power events marque - Czech Sea Power. There will be a strong visual element from the EOST moving-picture projection team, with a mixture of classic Czech cinema and contemporary Czech video and short film. This will commence with the screening of a full-length Czech film great. Additionally, one May sees the Czech Republic formally join the EEC. At the stroke of midnight this historic conjoinment will be marked. Records to dance to will be played by The Ecstasy Of Saint Theresa and Club Sea Power DJs Old Sarge and Monsignor Ian (the latter from the leading Japanese Earl Brutus tribute SAS Dirtyman).

See you down the front.
